Neuroscientist Nathan Spreng, assistant professor of human development, co-authored an opinion piece in the Huffington Post, January 29th, highlighting the urgency for dementia research and treatments due to America's rapidly aging population.

Right now, approximately 4 million people have dementia in the United States. By 2030, this number will double, costing an estimated $400 billion in care. All of this money is used not for treatment, but to provide comfort and care during a slow and ugly period of decline. Spreng and his coauthor argue that the battle against dimentia is underfunded.
