A multistate, multidisciplinary Family Caregiving Work Group was selected recently to become an eXtension Community of Practice. Family Caregiving is emerging as a major social and economic issue, impacting every area of family life. There is a growing demand for family strengthening programs that support caregivers and delay institutionalization of the aged and infirm. The Family Caregiving CoP's work embodies an integrative perspective, with experts from the fields of gerontology, human development, intergenerational relations, family resource management, nutrition, health, housing, agriculture, and community development working together to support and educate caregivers and their families.
Along with land-grant university faculty comprising a 24-member advisory committee, a 15-member steering committee, and nine content groups, this new CoP's partners include the Administration on Aging, the American Society on Aging, AARP Foundation, Association for Gerontology in Higher Education, Family Caregiver Alliance, National Alzheimer's Association, National Council on Aging, National Easter Seals Program, National Family Caregivers Association, and the Rosalynn Carter Institute for Caregiving. Caroline E. Crocoll, National Program Leader-Family Science and Human Development, serves as the CoP's CSREES Liaison. June P. Mead is a member of the Steering Committee, serving as the Technology Expert. If you are interested in becoming a member of the Family Caregiving CoP, please complete this form.
